Comprised of JJ Poulter and Brian Marshall, Kite has established itself as a bright star in Bajan music, even in an environment more known for soca, reggae and dancehall than rock-based genres.
Kite’s music, a sturdy mix of guitar-based alternative sounds sprinkled with pop, ska and reggae has contributed to the band’s increasing popularity with both local and international fans. Firefly, one of the tracks off Kite’s second album Up In The Air received airplay not only in Barbados, but on the CBS television series Ghostwhisperer.
This time around, Kite has gone one step further to push their music, releasing Thirteen Degrees North as an enhanced CD. The CD includes the music video to Firefly which was remixed for the band’s second album, and a behind-the-scenes ‘fly-on-the-wall’ mini-documentary of the band’s recording sessions and clips from their popular Saturday morning radio show on Barbados’ Mix 96.9 FM.
So far, response to Thirteen Degrees North has been positive. Breaking Up, Light From A Dead Star, Firefly and Beautiful Sky receive regular radio rotation and have struck a chord with listeners.
Kite’s Brian Marshall told CiRCUIT magazine that response to album by fans has been excellent, and that the feedback coming back to the band indicates that fans have noted a progression in Kite’s already strong musical offerings.
