“If I tell ya, I’ll hafta kill ya!” That was the response to the most obvious questions that CiRCUIT had to ask DJ Fuzz:  What’s your real name? What’s your age? How’d you get the name Fuzz?  Either we weren’t gonna get anything out of this guy or he’s a born comedian and it was gonna be a pretty fun interview.  Fortunately it was the latter.

DJ Fuzz, né Verity Beckles is best known as one of the hottest radio personalities in Barbados.  Fuzz (he’s recently dropped the DJ from his name to take his place as a one-syllable phenomenon) has been laying the foundation for his success for some time.  What started out as a hobby at the age of 13 has turned out to be a viable career for the 30-year old Fuzster whose preferred musical genres are soca, reggae and hip-hop.  A member of the back-in-the-day Powa House Crew DJ's,  DJ for Hott 95.3, and now a VJ for BoomTribe's hit entertainment show Roamin', Fuzz has an impressive track record.

Now on tour with Rupee as the soca star’s official DJ, he’s becoming well known on the international scene as an entertainer to be reckoned with.  Fuzz has been racking up frequent flier miles travelling from the UK to the US to Asia wowing crowds with his skills, and describes the response to soca music internationally as phenomenal.  

Fuzz describes himself as having split personalities.  “One minute I could be Verity, and one minute I could be Fuzz.”  Fuzz pulls out his T-mobile Sidekick II and starts scrolling through pics of himself with his face in contorted expressions.  He routinely sends them back home to friends and family. “See, this would be Fuzz…”

According to Fuzz, Bajan entertainers have a lot of potential to make it on the entertainment stage, and he cites Kimberly Inniss, Poundas, Billy Kincaid, and Toni Norville as just some of the notable local talented artists.

Fuzz is a self proclaimed movie fanatic, eyes lighting up on describing his favourite movie (The Matrix).  “I would sit down and pick down a movie…from costumes, to camera angles.”  Nicolas Cage, Denzel Washington and Sean Connery are among his favourite actors.  He’s also a big Xbox fan.

Considering his current skills which include promotions and event marketing, we can expect even bigger and better things from the Fuzster as he ventures into major production and making beats.
